Established in August 2007 to commemorate the contribution of Julia Basuutakyabwe Lule to the education and welfare of deaf children in Uganda, the Foundation aspires to the following objectives:
• To promote any educational purposes for persons who are partially or totally deaf in Uganda. This will include, among others, support for: research into education for the deaf; the training of teachers and interpreters for the deaf; the training of officials from public institutions in Sign Language; the introduction of Sign Language as a subject in educational institutions; and for convening fora to promote education for the deaf including seminars, lectures, meetings etc.
• To support collaborations with health authorities inquiring into issues of deafness – causes, cures, demographic data etc.
• To support the provision of testing and operational equipment for the deaf – audiometers, hearing aids, video equipment etc.
• To promote and organize co-operation with voluntary and other organizations engaged in activities that support education for the deaf.
